TRAVELER’S Notebook Regular Refill Guide

A current category-by-category guide to Regular size writing, diary, storage, connecting, repair, and archive refills using official product numbers.

By Aki6 minute read

TRAVELER’S notebook Regular is a refill system built around tall 110 × 210 mm booklets and matching accessories. The official lineup includes much more than lined, grid, and blank paper: diaries, folders, cases, connecting bands, specialty papers, repair parts, and archive binders all use numbered names.

Those numbers are the safest shopping coordinates. “Regular insert” establishes the size family, while “001 Lined Notebook” identifies the function. Marketplace titles often shorten one or both parts.

This guide organizes the official lineup by job rather than attempting to rank paper feel. Product availability changes, and Bungu Atlas has not physically tested the refills.

Regular size baseline

The standard writing booklet measures 110 × 210 mm. The official 001 Lined Notebook specification lists 64 pages, 6.5 mm ruling, MD Paper, saddle stitching, and a thickness of about 4 mm.

Other notebook refills generally share the Regular footprint, but paper type and construction can change page count and thickness. Storage accessories and folders are designed around the same leather-cover system rather than behaving like bound notebooks.

Do not substitute A5 paper because both formats are 210 mm tall. A5 is 148 mm wide, while the Regular refill is only 110 mm wide.

Core writing refills

Number Official name Primary job
001 Lined Notebook Conventional notes with 6.5 mm rules
002 Grid Notebook Structured writing, diagrams, trackers
003 Blank Notebook Drawing, flexible notes, collage
013 Lightweight Paper Notebook More pages with lower carried bulk
014 Kraft Paper Notebook Opaque brown paper for mixed materials
025 MD Paper Cream Cream-colored writing surface
026 Dot Grid Light structure for notes and layouts
027 Watercolor Paper Heavier paper for water-based artwork
031 Sticker Release Paper Temporary sticker storage
032 Accordion Fold Paper Continuous fold-out planning or display

Start with the page job. Lined, grid, blank, and dot grid are general-purpose writing choices. Lightweight paper changes capacity. Kraft, watercolor, sticker-release, and accordion formats solve more specialized tasks.

A paper name is not a compatibility statement for every pen or medium. The manufacturer’s intended-use description is useful, but drying time, show-through, feathering, and handling require hands-on testing outside this research guide.

Undated planning and diary refills

The Regular lineup separates several planning structures:

Choose the page structure before choosing the cover. A monthly insert is thin and overview-oriented; a daily system consumes pages more quickly. Combining monthly, weekly, and notes in one leather cover is possible, but every added booklet increases the spine stack.

The annual dated lineup is separate and changes by calendar year. Confirm the year, language, and edition on the current official page rather than treating an undated refill number as a dated product number.

Storage and carry accessories

Number Official name What it adds
004 Pocket Sticker Adhesive pocket on a cover or refill
007 / 028 Card File Organized card storage in differing lineup generations or designs
008 Zipper Case Enclosed and open pocket storage
020 Kraft Paper Folder Lightweight document pockets
029 Three-fold File Fold-out storage for larger papers

Storage accessories can make a notebook behave like a wallet or travel organizer, but their contents add thickness unevenly. Cards, coins, receipts, and folded papers can press against notebook pages or make the elastic closure tight.

Check the current product page for pocket count, material, and exact size. A similarly named Passport accessory is not a smaller item to be used interchangeably; it belongs to the Passport cover.

Connecting, carrying, and repair pieces

The 021 Connecting Rubber Band is the Regular-specific tool used to combine multiple refills. It creates a second attachment point around a refill rather than permanently modifying the leather cover.

The 016 Pen Holder M and 030 Brass Clip are listed for both size families in the official lineup. Shared accessories should still be checked for their intended attachment method and the dimensions of the pen or material being held.

Repair kits supply replacement elastics and small hardware. The Regular lineup lists standard-color and spare-color kits. A repair component affects the cover’s structure, so match the current kit instructions rather than buying an unverified generic elastic by appearance.

Archiving completed refills

The 011 Refill Binder stores completed Regular notebook refills outside the leather cover. Archiving prevents the active notebook from becoming an unlimited stack and preserves the system’s portable role.

Before archiving, label the refill with date range and job. A spine note such as “2026 Q3 work notes — 002 grid” is more useful than a color alone. Storage folders and zipper cases should be emptied or documented separately because they do not archive like stitched booklets.

A practical three-refill setup

A three-refill arrangement might combine:

  1. 017 Monthly for appointments;
  2. 019 Weekly + Memo for active planning;
  3. 001 Lined or 026 Dot Grid for notes.

This is a functional example, not a manufacturer capacity guarantee. Paper thickness, inserted material, and the placement of connecting bands affect how the cover closes. Start with two booklets, observe the physical stack, and add a third only if the system remains comfortable.

Another approach is to keep one planning booklet and one specialty booklet active, then rotate finished or project-specific notebooks into the archive binder.

One active refill can be a complete system

The leather cover does not require several booklets. One 001 Lined, 002 Grid, or 026 Dot Grid refill creates the lightest and simplest Regular setup. It also leaves the most room for the notebook to open without neighboring spines pressing against it.

Add a second refill only when a recurring job needs a genuine boundary—for example, dated planning separated from project notes. Add storage only when specific papers or cards must travel with the notebook. This job-first rule prevents accessories from becoming unused bulk and makes the purpose of each numbered refill easier to remember.

How to verify a US listing

Match five fields:

  1. TRAVELER’S notebook Regular Size;
  2. official three-digit refill number;
  3. full product name;
  4. dimensions near 110 × 210 mm for notebook inserts;
  5. current manufacturer item number when shown.

The official Japanese product pages can establish specifications even when they do not ship individual orders abroad. Availability from the United States is a separate merchant question. Start with TRAVELER’S COMPANY USA or a verifiably authorized retailer, then compare the listing against the official coordinate.

What not to combine

Passport refills at 89 × 124 mm are a different system. A generic “traveler notebook” booklet may be tall and narrow without matching either official family. A5 notebooks share the Regular refill height but are too wide.

The correct purchase label contains both the family and the item: “TRAVELER’S notebook Regular Size 026 Dot Grid,” not merely “dot grid insert.”

That discipline keeps an extensive lineup manageable. Select the job, confirm the number, and verify the Regular size before considering color, stock, or shipping.
